It’s NFL Draft Season which is both incredibly exciting as a football fan, and also super frustrating. Because I gobble up any article or post I see suggesting who the 49ers might take, I then get mad when the picks are “dumb” or “uninformed” according to … me. I consistently see mocks showing the team taking a WR in the first round because rthere are rumors that Brandon Aiyuk might get traded. And he might! But it’s increasingly unlikely. They also have, historically, taken defensive linemen early, so those show up too. And sure, they could bolster that critical part of their defense. But as a fan, it’s clear that the true weakness on a team that consistently goes deep in the playoffs is depth on the offensive line and at cornerback.
So instead of just whining about other folks mocks, I decided to do one of my own. And when that wasn’t satisfying enough, I did a second one where I got a little silly. Behold.
To show you what a magnanimous person I am, I think this is the worst case scenario for the 49ers in terms of offensive linemen but within the boundaries of something that could in fact happen. I only put a few trades in here because they are impossible to predict. But … that didn’t stop me with my next mock. Note that in none of the trades am I gonna try and predict compensation but let’s just note that no trades occur without both teams agreeing to them, so whatever it is, it’s “fair.”
Thoughts? It may be clear I don’t watch a ton of college football, but I do get into the draft so I think it’s a fun exercise. One more week until we find out how badly I did.
So apparently these Datawrapper tables don't really show much in mobile/gmail so that's a bummer. Hopefully folks come to the website to see it, but I'll have to sort out a better way to do tables here going forward.
