An Open Question

Why hasn't Joe Lieberman simply gone and joined the Republican party? He's endorsed their candidate for President, despite having had folks like Barack Obama actually support him during his fight for his seat in his most recent election. He goes on Fox News regularly and recites Republican talking points.

And now, he's bringing up the Reverend Wright thing as if Karl Rove is pulling his ventriloquist strings:

"In fairness we don't know if Rev. Wright said these inflammatory, anti-American, racial comments every Sunday, but I would not continue to go to a synagogue where that kind of rhetoric was spoken," Lieberman said, adding, "I think it did raise questions in people's minds about why did he stay in the church that long," but he said he would "take (Obama) at his word" and move on.

The sound you hear is me banging my head on my table.

Abby and I recently watched the HBO movie Recount, and one of the subtle highlights was watching Lieberman kneecap his running mate by saying that all the military votes should be counted, even if they didn't abide by the same election laws as other votes. Denis Leary's character said, "Lieberman just entered his name in the 2004 election." Well, that worked out great for Joe-mentum.

Look, it's fairly clear at this point that Lieberman wants to be part of a White House cabinet, and knows the only way there is via his best buddy John McCain. For someone who actually disagrees with the GOP on most every issue but the Iraq War, it seems to be a horribly political, brazen act and Lieberman, even if he refuses to acknowledge it, is a sock-puppet of the Republicans. He lets them use him and seems to enjoy it.

So why not join up with them formally? It would be great to get that shitstain out of pretending to still be aligned with the Democratic Party.
