Another collection of things I am thinking of that didn’t merit an entire post on their own.
I just read a fun book called The Cartographers, the premise of which is based around “phantom settlements” - things map makers put onto their maps that don’t exist, mostly for copyright protection. (That way, if someone merely copies their map and sells it themselves, you can find this fake area and call them out.) Similar things exist in code. Well, I was goofing off on Google Maps looking at the best golf courses in different countries (don’t judge me … or, whatever, go ahead and judge) and I think I found one:
I mean, I’m at least hoping that’s a fake place. Because otherwise I’d like to buy a vowel.
I’ve been pretty good about avoiding Twitter since Elon took over, but recently was linked there and couldn’t help but notice this gem from the Head Twit:
First off, that sounds like it was written (with fewer spelling mistakes and odd capitalizations) by a former apricot-tinted President hellbent on treason. But the responses to it were just a chef’s kiss and one of the reasons I do sort of miss Twitter:

I’m just going to put this out there - I’m having a hard time ignoring a strong desire to buy a new set of irons for my golf bag. I don’t really need new irons. I know I don’t. And yet …
Headlines are tricky stuff. I saw this one - Billionaires emit a million times more greenhouse gases than the average person - and wondered if this was the “Kim Kardashian flying across Los Angeles instead of driving” on steroids. But … no. It’s stating that the companies these billionaires INVEST in are responsible for this disproportionate amount of greenhouse gases. Which is a problem, but definitely not the same thing.
This WAS fun
