When I did my projections for where AFC QBs might end up, I acknowledged that there was no reason for the Colts to be enamoured with Carson Wentz, but that they were essentially stuck with him for another year.

Huh. Well then.
Think about this - the former #2 pick overall, cast aside by his first team because of his injuries and ineffectiveness, goes to a new team (who sent what will now be a first round pick back to the Eagles) and has a fairly decent season on the field. Not great, not earthshaking, etc., but solid. He was 10th in passing TDs (27), and in the middle of the pack in yards. He added over 200 yards rushing which was also a middle tier amount. By the completely obtuse ESPN QBR ranking, Wentz had a 54.4/100.00 which sounds fairly awful except…so did Joe Burrow. Only nine QBs had a higher rating.
So that’s good, right? Well, not enough to keep him on the roster. Remember early in the season when Wentz (unlike, say, Aaron Rodgers who was busy lying about his vaccination status) was wearing a mask and getting questions about whether he’d get vaccinated, he said this:

Which was a pretty obvious way of saying he wasn’t vaccinated and wasn’t planning on changing that. And sure - it IS a personal decision, albeit one that impacts everyone around you. Including the team you are supposed to be the leader of. And it turns out…that really, really came back to bite Wentz on the tush.
The Raiders beat the Colts in this game, which effectively cost the Colts a playoff spot. Now, would they have won with Carson Wentz preparing for the game like everyone else? They lost by a mere field goal, so it’s clearly possible. Indianapolis was one of the lowest vaccinated teams in the NFL, at least for awhile last season but … QBs are different. They get paid a lot more, they’re the most valuable position in all of sports, and they HAVE to be there for their team. Even if they’re so physically talented that they need less preparation, they need to show up, and be an actual leader. It’s questions about availability and leadership that have guys like Jimmy Garoppolo (availability), Kyler Murray (leadership), Aaron Rodgers (insanity and a false sense of intelligence) on the trading block this offseason.
Wentz decided he wouldn’t get vaccinated, and that’s his right. And it possibly cost his team a playoff berth, and seems to definitely be costing him his job, and perhaps a starting job next season.
Hope it was worth it, dipshit.
