Mr. Coulter Speaks The Truth

"I'm more of a man than any liberal."
-- ANN COULTER, talking with Bill O'Reilly on his Fox show about her aggressive stance toward politicians like John Edwards
First, no shit. She looks like Bill Walton in a wig. (Which I find funny since there used to be quite a push to describe her as a hot, leggy blond. Yeesh.)
Secondly, I find this quote to be somewhat revealing. Back in 2003-2004, when I was debating the Iraq war with a stubborn co-worker, he finally said, "You know, sometimes you just need to kick some ass to make people know you mean it." Putting aside the callousness of this statement (I'm sure the families of the thousands of dead American and Iraqis might argue this strategy), I actually understand this philosophy -- for dealing with bullies in high school. There is an underlying component of the neo-conservative philosophy that truly speaks to insecurity, to showing you "are a man" by smacking people around. It's the kind of credo that makes it easy to sneer at John Kerry for his "sensitive" aproach to terrorism, or to think that the problems of the world can always be solved better by force than diplomacy.
The theory would be harder to criticize if a) it didn't seem to fail miserably thus far and b) anyone preaching it had EVER SERVED IN THE MILITARY DURING A WAR. It's a philosophy that works for "other" people, just not the ones preaching it.
Can't these guys all just get hair transplants and new convertibles and be over with it? (Yes, I include Mr. Coulter in the "guys" category. Anyone with an Adam's Apple qualifies as a guy.
