Of COURSE He's Hurt.
Cubs ace Carlos Zambrano is heading to the DL. Why should this matter to you? It probably doesn't, but he's the ace on our fantasy team, Infant Marsalis Rising.
Per Rotoworld:
Cubs placed Carlos Zambrano on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to June 19 with a minor strain in his right shoulder.
It's the second career DL stint for Zambrano. He shouldn't be out too long. Big Z had a 8-3 record with a 3.13 ERA in 16 starts this season.
On its own, it's not a crushing blow...but it's just yet another big name on our team that has not just spent some time on the DL this year - they are there RIGHT NOW.
Take a look at this list:
Carlos Zambrano
Chris Young (the pitcher...these two guys are our SP1 and SP2, by the way).
Rafael Soriano (terrible pick, he's been on the DL almost all year and has just 3 saves)
David Ortiz - Big Papi, come back!
Travis Hafner - Pronk wasn't doing anything before he got disabled, but hopefully he'll be better in the second half.
Eric Byrnes See: Hafner, Travis.
Josh Willingham - Does he belong on this list? Damn skippy, Willingham batted .341 with 16 RBI in 25 games. Fortunately for us, he'll be coming back next week, it appears, as will Byrnes.
Did I mention Jerry Hairston, Jr., who broke his hand the first game we played him? Or Shane Victorino, who spent about a month on the DL already? How about utility infielder Ty Wiggington, who spent maybe six weeks on the shelf right out of the gate?
Injuries are part of every sport, and hence part of fantasy sports. But there are some years when you get slammed, despite your best intent. The guys on the above list aren't, by and large, particularly injury prone. It's just a bad luck of the draw so far for our team.
