Shudder to think
Sometimes I wonder exactly what I'll do if George W. Bush is re-elected. I joke about moving to Canada, or to San Miguel D'Allende in Mexico (a place I've never even been), but really...maybe I'll have to. Seriously, I can't imagine how fucked up this country will be - even if Kerry wins (WHEN Kerry wins, WHEN Kerry wins), he's going to inherit such a shitstorm of problems, the least of all which might be Iraq.
The country's deficits, brought on not just by Iraq and Afghanistan, but also by the moronic tax cuts that even Reagan ended up reversing (those who do not learn from history...) will essentially limit whoever is in the White House from 2004-08 to basically bandaging up everything. There won't be huge funding for anything worthwhile, god forbid something frivolous like education. And while many Republicans are at least hinting that they aren't moving in lockstep with Georgie and Dickie, they will treat Kerry like Clinton - like scum. [Never mind that it's apparently unpatriotic and 'terrorist-like' to speak ill of this current President; it's the normal pace of politics to belittle Democrats.]
The one unifying characteristic about George W., Cheney, DeLay and others is arrogance and ego. If they lose - and they certainly could, both in the White House and Congress - they will be so bitter that they will do everything possible to throw sand in the face of people who dared unseat them from power. I can only hope it happens - it would be so fun to watch.
