Stephen Colbert Speaks Truth

I'm not a religious person, and tend to have a pretty unfavorable opinion of the role that organized religion has had on the world...but I do understand it's inherent positives, and the great good it has done for so many.
That's why, when you see people using religion to justify things that are (in my understanding) contrary to the teachings of said religion - starting wars, taking resources away from the needy - it drives me crazy. (Let's face it, it's a crowded neighborhood of things that drive me crazy, but hypocritical religious zealots occupy some prime real estate there.)
So this, shared by my friend Matt Turner, is just sheer brilliance from none other than Stephen Colbert:
"If this is going to be a Christian nation that doesn't help the poor, either we have to pretend that Jesus was just as selfish as we are, or we've got to acknowledge that He commanded us to love the poor and serve the needy without condition -- and then admit that we just don't want to do it."
I'm assuming that's a choice folks like Sarah Palin and others aren't probably going to make.
