Here are a few things I wanted to share because they’re just too good to keep to myself.
This, from the Morning Brew newsletter tickled me to no end. A resident of Seaside, CA was told that they needed to put up a fence to hide their boat as it violated some rule of the city. The owner, Etienne Constable (whose name sounds like a character from an Agatha Christie novel) In any case, this is how the person responded.
Yes, that’s a fence, painted to replicate the boat that was such a horrorshow it needed to be hidden. Looks like somebody read the HOA rules and found themselves a workaround.
Do you like the NBA? Stats suggest that you do, as it’s the second most popular sport in the United States and has an increasing global presence. If so, may I recommend a podcast? It’s called No Cap NBA Wrap, and full disclosure it is a buddy of mine and his middle school son, talking very smartly about hoops in a way that is funny and insightful. Be cool and give it a listen, especially as we head into the championship.
We are deep into the 3rd season of Hacks, and if you haven’t watched this show yet, you absolutely should. The first two seasons were really fun - but at times deeply uncomfortable, which is not for everyone. And without spoilers, the end of last season made me wonder why and how they’d possibly make a third season happen - and yet, it’s the best season yet. It’s funny and weird but realistic, and I’m rooting for people I never did before. It’s really a unique show (on HBO/Max/whatever, fyi) and you should give it a whirl.
As someone who used to work in the ticketing industry, the fact that the US has opened up a lawsuit against Ticketmaster and LiveNation for monopolistic behavior is … intriguing. I don’t expect much to come of it but it should be stated - over and over and over again - that literally every complaint folks have about how expensive concert tickets are, how hard it is to even get them even when you’re willing to pay a lot - these are almost ALL due to the way Ticketmaster works and operates. As the article says, this is the rare thing that both Democrats and Republicans in Congress agree on, so maybe it will amount to something. Let’s hope.
Stop letting them tell you what to do. They have no legitimate power over you. If you let them regulate anything, they will eventually regulate everything. This podcast explains the concept:

I remember one time you explaining to me actually how Ticketmaster's control that fucks up the ticketing system, and I remember thinking there were some details in there I hadn't known or even thought of before. Sure, I'm not very clever, but it seemed you had some insight. Perhaps as this story continues, you do a write-up on that.
